Abstract
This essay explores the crucial role of women in peacebuilding within the context of Taraba State,
Nigeria, West Africa. Taraba State has experienced recurring conflicts, including ethnic tensions,
farmer-herder conflicts, and communal violence. Women in Taraba State have emerged as
influential actors in peacebuilding efforts, utilizing their unique perspectives, skills, and
experiences to promote dialogue, reconciliation, and social cohesion. This essay examines the
specific challenges faced by women in Taraba State, highlightstheir contributionsto peacebuilding,
and emphasizes the importance of empowering women as agents of positive change in creating
lasting peace in the region. Using a historical method of research, this study examines some major
historical references of women involvement in peacebuilding and makes a comparative analysis
with the reality of the Taraba women in peacebuilding efforts with the sole aim of fostering
recommendations that will enhance their emergence as key stakeholders in peacebuilding
initiatives.
